Pricing and Payment Options
Figuring out insurance coverage and deciding between insurance and self-pay can be one of the hardest parts of starting therapy. One of our main goals is to minimize, as much as we can, the stress and confusion about how to pay for therapy. To that end, we work with several major insurance companies and offer self-pay and sliding scale options. Below, you can learn more about each of the payment options and how we work with them. No website can cover all the information and ins-and-outs, so we are also happy to help you navigate the process and clarify information.

Self-Pay
If you choose self-pay, it's fairly straightforward. Your therapist will charge their fee to your credit card information on file in our HIPAA-compliant client portal, Jane.
Equitable access to services regardless of insurance or socioeconomic status is a core value of Triquetra Counseling. Currently, our self-pay prices range from $85 to $275 depending on length and type of service. Please reach out to your clinician to discuss available self-pay and sliding scale rates.
If we are not in-network with your insurance plan, you may have the option submit your self-pay visits to your insurance company, via a “Super Bill,” for potential reimbursement or to work toward your out-of-network deductible. Ask your therapist about this option and how to receive a superbill from us.
When using the self-pay option, you can also choose to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) card or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) card, if you have one.
There are many reasons folks may prefer to use self-pay despite having insurance. The most frequent reasons we hear are not wanting to receive a diagnosis, wanting to avoid the potential for insurance companies to read visit notes and dictate treatment frequency and length, and not wanting the primary plan holder to receive Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) that include visit information such as time, provider, and location, among many other reasons.
If we are in-network with your insurance plan, but you would prefer not to use your insurance, ask your therapist about the “Election to Self-Pay for Services” option.

insurance
Triquetra Counseling is currently in-network with
• Aetna• CBHA
• Cigna
• Blue Cross Blue Shield including Blue Home and Blue Care
• Medcost
• Medicaid, including Healthy Blue, Carolina Complete, Alliance, Partners, and United Medicaid
• United/Optum/UBHNot all clinicians are able to accept all plans, so please double-check that your clinician is in-network with your plan. We are in the process of credentialing with additional insurance companies, so please reach out if you do not see your plan listed.
To find out how much you will pay for each session when using your insurance, call your insurance company at the number on the back of your card, and ask the representative, "What is my mental health co-pay?"
- If they say you have a copay, you will pay a certain amount (for example, $10) at every session.
- If they say you pay coinsurance per session, that means you pay a percentage (for example, 20%) of the insurance-dictated cost of each visit. Your therapist can help you calculate how much your coinsurance payment is.
- If they say you need to meet your deductible, then you will pay the full amount of the insurance-dictated cost of each visit. Your therapist can tell you what the insurance-dictated cost of each visit is, which is usually between $95 - $150 per session.

Sliding scale
It’s important to us that care be accessible and affordable for everyone, so we offer sliding scale (sometimes called reduced rate) options. Limited sliding fee scale slots are available, so please inquire with your therapist.

Cancellation Policy
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This means that if you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of your visit or if you do not show up to your session, you will be charged $95 regardless of whether you use self-pay or insurance (Medicaid clients are legally exempt from late cancellation/no-show fees). Please review your intake paperwork for more details about our late cancellation/no-show policy and ask your therapist if you have any questions.
